Lou's Diary
A little prince, not quite like the others
Hello, I am a little boy who only sees right with his heart...
Which doesn't make my parent's daily life any easier. So I'm blind and different (mentally speaking).

Welcome to Lou's blog

This blog was born in french during autumn 2003 and is now progressively being translated in your language.

New articles will therefore appear on a regular basis.

DISCLAIMER

... my apologies to the people who hadn't understood this yet, all articles on this website are created and written by myself (his dad).

Lou is currently unable to do it,, just like he is to this day unable to grasp the concept of a "computer", "internet", or to focus for a long period of time on a conversation. Only time will tell us if we manage to integrate him completely in the world in which he lives.

Therefore all stories, despite relating actual facts, are obviously biased by my interpretation of his behavior. But having known him for over five years, I don't think I'm getting it wrong.

127. In the car

(or how daddy exploits his flaws for educational purposes)

I know all about the car, and I like it even if it's not always fascinating. (I can't see the landscape).
Good thing there's the radio and the conversations with my own personal chauffeur.

For example, to go to school, we cross the woods with the numerous wide turns pressing me against either side of my appointed little seat.
Daddy takes advantage of the situation to explain to me : "We tuuuuuurn left and you are pushed to the right ! We tuuuuuuuurn right and you are pushed to the left ! Fun isn't it ?"
I do like it, but the centrifugal force is quite a concept to grasp, even though in practice I am under its influence quite often (merry go rounds, spin wheels, etc ...).
Speaking of which, I also understood the meaning of the word "traffic jam", because thanks to our daily morning crossing of the woods I know all about them.
That said I can't complain : I know kids at my school who drive a hundred and fifty kilometers every morning and every evening in a schoolbus. As a result : they have to wake up at 5:30 am !

79. Devices and machines.

Lou et les machinesThe world is so noisy ! Granted I'm no gift myself ( see the multiple sound sources I constantly demand ). But still...
I have already told you about the sound of the lawnmower , which I love, but next to that there is a whole range of other machines just as noisy that I must learn to deal with.
The toughest one remains the vacuum cleaner (funny, it's also the case for Virgule, our kitten).
So sometimes, to get me aquainted with the beast, mommy uses a mini vacuum cleaner that she makes me touch and turn on. And the same goes for all appliances : blender (the picture), microwave, hair drier, dish washer, washing machine, etc
At first, you must always warn me to keep me from jumping in the air. But ok, the family got used to it. After that, generally, my parents invite me to touch the device. I'm hesitant, but I eventually I cave.
And as for any child in the world, after that the hardest thing is stopping !
Moral of the story, in addition to "the Papuans"
, "the days of the week", and "the countries", the list of quotes now contains "the machines".
"So daddy, ... tell me the machines !" And daddy gives me the complete list, intra and extra muros, then has me work my brain a little.

By the way, pop quizz : what's the difference between a machine and a device ? A car is a machine, and a blender is a device... A machine can have many devices, but not the opposite. Both are the result of a mechanism or a series of mechanisms. One can be autonomous, whereas as the other ... although ... (anyway, these nuances are much too complicated for me).

63. I will be a star !

Hello, hello, little dog Courage ! Hello, hello, mister René ! Hello, hello, Colargol, Garacroc, Marie-Anne, Bon-Papy, Virgule and all my friends from the internet !
Guess what, the belgian television came to film me yesterday, wednesday, to talk about the website and broadcast a story about me in the 19:30 news (great story, congratulations Francois !).
They had noticed the website during a recent story about "blogs" and since apparently it was a special day for blind people ...
We had a lot of fun, and I did everything I was asked to, even if at times I was troubled by the presence of the tv crew and the messed up afternoon program ... But they picked me the way I am !

To see the vidéo (...in french indeed) with Quicktime viewer IT'S HERE !

48. Virgule's blunders

Lou dans son vbain 3Yesterday, in my bath, I started laughing uncontrollably.
First I heard a "ploof", then mommy :
"But ... Virgule ! What are you doing there ?".
Then she laughed and she explained it to me :
Virgule (our kitten who's in the silly age), had fallen, not in the bathtub (it had already happened the previous day), but in the toilet. I started laughing, so hard !
Me : "Virgule in the toilet ! Bah... Come on now, Virgule !"

34. "Virgule" and me

virgule, la chatteOn top of the dog, Mega, whom I still haven't introduced, I have to tell you about the new pet who arrived home a month ago : Virgule (comma).
Sure there already was a cat, Fritz, but he died in early july. I don't know what that means, but one thing is sure, he's not around anymore.
So on Eva's request, mommy and daddy got another kitten (thinking it would also be good for me!). But I don't really care for him, except he's always trying to jump on me when I'm swinging and I don't like that. We're not exactly friends yet... It's so-so... Although...
Yesterday morning, when driving me to school, daddy took Virgule along to go to the vet and get his first vaccines. In the car, Virgule was crying constantly in his basket-cage. So I was all cute. During the whole ride, I talked to him : "You musn't cry, little Virgule... You musn't be afraid... It's just a small injection..."
And I know quite a bit about that, since every evening I get my daily hormone shot (which I accept elegantly).
Maybe that will make me closer to Virgule...
